Villar SIPAG celebrate women's month through agriculture trainings

Villar SIPAG Farm Business School has launched series of trainings for women to equip them knowledge and skills on farming and gardening which they may apply while they are attending the household.


On May 18, 2016, Villar SIPAG also held the workshop on Bamboo Propagation, Nursery and Care in partnership with DENR - Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau and UPLB Department of Natural Resources and Forestry headed by Mr. Gregorio Santos. The participants, who are women’s groups coming from NCR, Laguna and Cavite were taught on bamboo kinds, uses, propagation, plantation establishment, harvesting and planting.

The workshop on Orchids Cultivation and Cutflower Production was conducted on March 19, 2016 at the Villar SIPAG Farm Business School and was attended by more than a hundred of members of women’s groups coming from NCR, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Rizal. The training was provided by the Philippine Horticultural Society led by Senior Science Research Specialist, Mr. Fernando Aurigue. The program discussed the general requirements of orchids, propagation, and its specific culture, types, diseases and pests and control, and orchid cut flower production.

At the end of the day, women participants received their certificates of completion after the workshop.


National women’s month celebration was culminated on March 31, 2016 with a training-workshop on Green Charcoal Technology: Converting Waste Paper, Twigs and Garden Wastes into Charcoal Briquettes. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Gregorio Santos, a forester from UPLB Department of natural Resources and Forestry. The 153 women participants had a lecture and hands-on activity on charcoal briquette making. DENR- Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau co-sponsored the program through Dr. Henry Adornado.

Certificate of Completion was awarded to 153 participants on Green Charcoal Technology training at the Villar SIPAG Farm School.
