Sen. Cynthia Villar led coastal preservation measures

Senator Cynthia Villar and DepEd Secretary, Bro. Armin Luistro led the clean-up activity at Gasangan, Barangay 649 in Baseco, Manila on January 21, 2016, in celebration of the Zero Waste Month. Mr. Rey Aguinaldo, Focal Officer for LPPCHEA of DENR NCR, also joined the activity along with several civil society groups including students.

Community members and Barangay officials also joined the coastal clean up.


On March 16, 2016, Mangrove Planting and Clean Up was again held in Baseco, Manila. The project, which was conducted by Villar SIPAG in coordination with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, was led by Senator Cynthia Villar and was enjoined by the community members from the different barangays in Manila. Event partners are the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - National Capital Region, Metro Manila Development Authority, Barangay 649 and Kabalikat sa Kaunlaran ng Baseco, Manila.


At the opening of the mangrove planting and clean up activity, Sen Villar called upon the public to plant mangrove for a healthy surrounding.

Senator Cynthia Villar, together with DENR-NCR, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), RAMSAR and the Las Pinas Red Cross held a coastal event on March 21, 2016 in celebration of the 3rd Anniversary of the Declaration of LPPCHEA as a RAMSAR site, alongside with the 2016 International Day of the Forest and 2016 World Water Day.

Senator Villar, whose advocacies include environmental protection, led the coastal clean-up drive at the Long Island, watering of trees and nature appreciation walk. The activity was graced by volunteers from the 20 barangays of Las Pinas City, students, Red Cross Las Pinas volunteers, NGOs and other companies and private organizations.

On April 22, 2016, Villar SIPAG together with its partners in environmental protection just made a pledge to plant more trees and continue protecting the environment for the next generation. The Earth is currently losing over 15 billion trees?? each year due to deforestation, urbanization and bad forest management. Starting this year, via “Trees for the Earth”, there is a plan to plant 7.8 billion trees by 2020 in time for the Earth Day‘s 50th Anniversary. This activity, which was held in LPPCHEA, targets one tree for every person on the planet and will focus on the regions of the world most affected by deforestation.

Another round of coastal cleanup was spearheaded by Senator Cynthia Villar on May 2, 2016, together with residents of Bgy. 649, Baseco Compound, Port Area Manila, as well as students and other volunteers.
